Many addiction and betrayal trauma providers are familiar with Abstinence Contracts. But are they using them to their full potential?
Abstinence contracts can be more than a “check-the-box” list of prohibited behaviors or experiences. When thoughtfully constructed and executed, these agreements can become meaningful growth opportunities for relational healing.

Jeanne Vattuone, LCSW, is a trauma specialist with over 25 years of experience and Co-Founder of Willow Tree Counseling, an intensive outpatient program focused on sex addiction and partner betrayal trauma. She holds advanced certifications as a CCPS-S, CSAT-S, and CPTT-S, and provides consultation and training for clinicians pursuing these specializations. Jeanne is also certified in EMDR and Brainspotting which she integrates into her clinical work.
A long-standing leader within APSATS, Jeanne served four years as President of the Board and has been actively involved with the organization since 2014. She is a sought-after national speaker, co-hosts the podcast Conversations on Sex, Addiction, and Relationships, and is co-author of Finding the Way Through: A Workbook for Sex and Pornography Addiction — Sobriety, Recovery, & Partner Betrayal Sensitivity, the first addiction workbook to fully integrate partner betrayal trauma and relational repair into recovery.
Outside of her professional work, Jeanne enjoys organic gardening, volunteering with animal rescue organizations, and hiking in Sonoma County.
